This week, AI technology caused big changes in jobs across the U.S. and other countries. Over 10,000 jobs were cut in July because companies started using more generative AI tools. The tech industry saw the biggest cuts, with 89,000 jobs lost so far this year – a 36% jump from last year. Young workers are hit hardest, as entry-level corporate jobs dropped 15% in the past year. Microsoft’s research found 40 jobs at high risk from AI, including roles in customer service, data entry, and marketing. Companies are spending more on AI tools instead of hiring new people, freezing job growth. The U.S. government also announced a new AI Action Plan to boost AI development, which may help some jobs but could hurt others. Experts warn that half of white-collar jobs might be replaced by AI in the future.
