This week saw major developments in AI ethics and safety across religious, legal, and global policy areas.

Pope Leo XIV called for ethical AI development to prevent dehumanization and inequality, marking the first major religious statement on artificial intelligence. In the United States, Yale researchers helped Colorado implement its AI Bias Prevention Law requiring audits for housing and job algorithms, while Connecticut lawmakers debated similar rules.

A global UN forum announced new AI safety guidelines covering environmental impacts, cultural preservation, and protections for people with disabilities. Singapore proposed shared AI safety standards through the OECD to help smaller countries access testing tools.

A Florida court ruled that chatbot makers must include suicide prevention features after a teen’s death linked to AI-generated harmful content. Legal experts say this creates new responsibilities for AI emotional safety in consumer products.
